Roger Roger Et Son Orchestre - Rock Machine No 1 (France, 1971)
Here's one from the often great, sometimes downright beautiful and always slightly strange Roger Roger. I've put up Rock Machine No 1 as it's got just the right measure of psyche sensibilities, library beat and early electronic weirdness. A compelling and brilliant track.
It's difficult not to be in thrall with the KPM 1000 series. The same can be said for the Chappell DMM's.
Both labels have a very distinctive sound and equally distinctive artists - KPM had the mighty Keith Mansfield, Alan Hawkshaw, Alan Moorehouse, Brian Bennett, John Cameron & Alan Parker, the list of quality musicians is endless. Chappell boasted Jack Arel, Pierre Dutour, Jean Claude Petit, Paul Piot, Roger Roger & Rene Costy, and again, the quality shone through.
